What is EST terminus? EST terminus is a set of sequence features detected in EST sequences that define the ends or termini of cDNA inserts, and therefore 3' or 5' ends of mRNA transcripts or expressed genes. This assumption could be held true for most cases unless reverse transcription of polyadenylated mRNAs terminate prematurely. Because current conventional bioinformatics pipelines that process raw traces to obtain EST sequences are not designed to mine these sequence features for informative content, substantial EST terminus information is not available in public domain EST resources. We have categorized our EST sequences into 6 major types based on their identified terminal structures that match the cDNA library construction partially or completely. Using the following web interfaces, you can explore the detailed terminus structures for all the sequences we reprocessed. |
