ConiferEST is a unique database for data reprocessing and mining of conifer Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) traces.   Its main characteristics are:

It is the first public EST resource for reprocessing raw DNA sequencer trace files for previously ignored sequence features, which will help data quality control and validation of error-prone ESTs and mine novel functional motifs embedded in large EST datasets.

By focusing on characterizing and highlighting 3' and 5' termini of cDNA inserts created using oligo-dT primers, ConiferEST strives to provide the community cleaner, well-annotated EST sequences that will benefit many EST downstream data analyses.

ConiferEST presents both the complexity and abnormality of EST data in terms of terminus structures to the community in a biologist-friendly manner, with robust data filtration, sorting, searching and visualization functionality.

We are now in the process of expanding the reprocessing procedures to include other species and constructing an EST-Termini database, which will be a useful, complementary public resource in EST data integration and mining.
