What is EST terminus? EST terminus is a set of sequence elements or features detected in raw EST trace or chromatograph files that delineate termini or ends of cDNA inserts, and therefore most likely 3'/5' ends of mRNA transcripts or expressed genes. This assumption could be hold for most cases unless reverse transcription of polyadenylated mRNAs terminates prematurely. Because currently existing, conventional bioinformatics programs and tools that process raw traces to obtain EST sequence reads are not designed to mine these sequence features for informative content, substantial EST terminus information is not available in public domain EST resources. We have categorized our EST sequences into 6 major types based on their identified terminus structures, which match the cDNA library construction partially or completely. Using the following web interfaces, you can explore the detailed terminus structures for all the sequences we reprocessed. |
